LibDem Group Leader Paul Sparks slams Wealden Council Tax increase

LibDem's challenge Tory council tax rise for Wealden Liberal Democrat councillors on Wealden District Council put forward an amendment to the Conservative controlled council's budget asking for a freeze in Council Tax rises for this year. The Liberal Democrat group and many Uckfield residents are frustrated with the mismanagement of the Wealden Plan by the Conservative dominated council which has recently been rejected by the government planning inspector. The development of the Wealden Plan had taken place over many years at a cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds, and has been rejected due to a catalog of failures. The Hailsham LibDem HQ repaired and repainted by Steve Murphy Oct 23, 2019

Update on Hailsham LibDem HQ

Following the recent attack by vandals on the Hailsham LibDem HQ, which is still being investigated by police, local LibDem activist Steve Murphy spent many hours removing the paint and repainting the damaged parts, and has managed singlehandedly to restore the building (as pictured yesterday). Well done Steve and a huge thank you from all of us!

Vandals deface Hailsham LibDem HQ for the third time this year

As detailed in a Sussex Express article today we were all shocked and saddened to hear that the Hailsham LibDem HQ was vandalised in the early hours of Sunday morning, the third such incident this year. Previously, paint was thrown at the building and the windows were also shot with a BB gun. Wealden District Councillor Neil Cleaver, who lives nearby, said he returned home late on Saturday night following a Hailsham Bonfire Society meeting. "It was close to 1am when I walked home, and I passed right by the building and it was definitely not defaced at that time," said Cllr Cleaver, who was the first to spot the damage, which consisted of red and white paint that had been thrown across the windows and walls, the next morning around 8am when he was driving past. He immediately reported it to the police and took photos. Hailsham Mayor Paul Holbrook expressed his deep dismay that this has happened again.
